ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on violent crime, with the arrest of suspected armed robbers and cultists as well as the recovery of lethal firearms and ammunition in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, who said the successes were achieved through intelligence-led operations and targeted raids across the area.
According to the statement, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), acting on credible intelligence on December 28, 2025, carried out a coordinated raid on a criminal hideout at the Otorwhodo area of Ughelli North Local Government Area. The operation, led by ASP Julius Robinson, resulted in the arrest of one Moses Tejiri, a 24-year-old male native and resident of the area, while other members of the gang escaped by scaling surrounding fences.
A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one long Dane gun, ten rounds of live cartridges, two locally fabricated Beretta pistols and eleven rounds of live ammunition. Police said during preliminary investigation, the suspect made useful confessional statements, admitting his involvement in several armed robbery incidents around Ekredjebor, Olu Avenue, Winners Road and other parts of Ughelli metropolis.
In a separate operation, the Command said officers of the State Intelligence Department (SID), following intensified surveillance on December 29, 2025, arrested one Isu Emmanuel at a hotel located around Victoria Junction, Okpanam Road, over the alleged sale and distribution of illicit drugs.
The suspect, who claimed to be a nurse with Guard Health Pharmacy, Okpanam, was reportedly notorious for dispensing controlled drugs to members of the public without doctors’ prescriptions. Items recovered during the operation included 28 sachets of tramadol (100mg), 16 sachets of Swindol, three bottles of Barcadine containing codeine syrup, and other prohibited substances.
Police said the suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Delta State Police Command reassured residents that intelligence-driven patrols, targeted raids and proactive crime-prevention strategies remain firmly in place to deny criminal elements any safe haven in the state. The Command also urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to enhance collective security efforts across Delta State.
