ASABA/Nigeria: The leadership of the Ndokwa Neku Union has called for urgent intervention to address persistent electricity challenges affecting Ndokwa communities, despite the area hosting one of the country’s largest independent power facilities. The appeal was made during a courtesy visit by the union’s delegation, led by its President General, Amechi Asuguni, to the Delta State Commissioner for Power and Energy, Engr. Michael Ifeanyi Anoka.
During the meeting, the delegation conveyed the appreciation of the Ndokwa people to Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, for what it described as inclusive leadership and for appointing an Ndokwa indigene to head the power ministry. The union said the appointment was widely viewed as recognition of the ethnic nationality’s contributions to the development of the state.
The group, however, stressed that electricity supply remains a major concern across Ndokwa communities and urged the commissioner to draw the governor’s attention to the need for improved distribution and access as part of the administration’s broader development agenda. It noted that residents have long questioned why host communities of major power infrastructure continue to face inadequate supply.
Pledging its support, the union assured the ministry of its willingness to collaborate on policies and initiatives aimed at strengthening energy delivery across the state, saying partnership between stakeholders was essential to achieving sustainable solutions
Responding, the commissioner thanked the delegation for the visit, acknowledged the concerns raised, and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to tackling electricity challenges affecting Ndokwa communities. He also assured the group that he would facilitate further engagement between the union’s leadership and the governor to advance discussions on the issues.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to dialogue, cooperation, and joint action toward improving electricity supply and accelerating development in Ndokwa Nation and Delta State.
