OBIARUKU/Nigeria: Tension gripped Ebedei community in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State following a violent clash between suspected members of rival cult groups that left two persons injured.
The incident, which occurred at Obiogene area of Ebedei on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, reportedly began after an encounter between a suspected member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, identified as Wuchi, and a member of the Eiye Confraternity, known as Jabbi.
Sources in the community said the confrontation between the two individuals escalated into a group fight involving members of the rival cult groups, creating panic among residents of the area.
According to eyewitness accounts, the situation worsened later in the evening around 8:22 p.m. when suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity allegedly returned to the area in what appeared to be a retaliatory move.
Community members who attempted to intervene and prevent further violence reportedly confronted the group, but in the course of the altercation, Jabbi sustained injuries to his forehead while Wuchi was stabbed in the left rib.
Local vigilante operatives were later mobilised to the scene in an attempt to restore order and prevent further escalation of the crisis.
Although the vigilante group intervened to calm the situation, sources said the intervention ended in a deadlock, raising fears among residents that further clashes between the rival groups may occur if security agencies do not step in to contain the situation.
