ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Awareness Creation Committee on Youth Enlistment into the Military and Paramilitary Services (SACC) has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for what it described as his unwavering commitment to ensuring that Delta State maximally utilises its quota in admissions and recruitment into the nation’s military and paramilitary institutions.
The committee gave the commendation after its first quarterly meeting held on Monday, noting that the governor’s support has significantly increased the participation of Delta youths in various military and paramilitary services across the country.
In a statement jointly signed by the Commissioner for Youth Development and Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Barrister ThankGod Trakiriowei, and the Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications and Committee Chief Publicist, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, the committee said the administration’s deliberate efforts had opened more opportunities for qualified youths from the state.
According to the statement, thousands of Delta youths have secured admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and other military institutions, while many others have been successfully enlisted into the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force and the Nigerian Army through both short service commissions and regular recruitment exercises.
The committee observed that within less than three years of the Oborevwori administration, the number of Delta youths gaining admission into the nation’s military schools and police colleges has increased significantly.
It disclosed that preparations were already underway to expand opportunities for Delta youths in the 2026 recruitment cycle through intensified awareness campaigns across the state’s three senatorial districts.
SACC said the awareness drive would involve the mass media, traditional rulers and local government chairmen, with the aim of encouraging eligible youths to take advantage of recruitment opportunities in the military and paramilitary services.
The committee further revealed that in 2026 its members would embark on advocacy visits to Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police and other top officers responsible for recruitment and admissions into the armed forces, police and paramilitary agencies.
According to the committee, the initiative is designed to consolidate the progress already recorded and ensure that Delta State consistently fills its allocated quota during national recruitment exercises.
Meanwhile, the committee elected Chief Alfred Orugbo as its substantive secretary following the redeployment of the former secretary. Orugbo, who is already a member of the committee, also serves as the Executive Secretary of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council.
SACC also stated that its members would continue to monitor recruitment exercises across the country and attend Passing Out Parades of recruits in order to encourage and boost the morale of officers and trainees from Delta State.
The committee equally commended the Secretary to the Delta State Government and Chief Strategist of the administration, Dr. Kingsley Emu, describing him as a “super technocrat, team player and perfectionist.”
It noted that his leadership and strategic guidance have played a critical role in the achievements recorded so far in expanding opportunities for Delta youths.
The committee added that the growing number of admissions into the Nigerian Defence Academy, Police Colleges, military schools and other services aligns with the job and wealth creation drive contained in Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda.
Among those who attended the meeting were the Permanent Secretary, State Directorate of Political and Security Services (DPSS), Mr. T. C. Aguonye; the SACC Secretary, Chief Alfred Orugbo; the representative of the Christian community, Rev. Cyril Okonye; and Mr. Emmanuel Egodo, among others.
