Adeniran Declares Oyo Governorship Bid, Pledges to Sustain Makinde’s Omituntun Legacy

Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran

IBADAN/Nigeria: The Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, has formally declared his intention to contest the governorship of Oyo State under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), promising to consolidate the achievements of the current administration and deepen sustainable development across the state.

Adeniran made the declaration in a statement issued on Monday, explaining that his decision followed extensive consultations, deep reflection and prayers. He said his aspiration was motivated by a strong desire to serve the people and build on the progress recorded under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde.

The governorship hopeful noted that the formal declaration reinforces his earlier announcement made during a state radio programme a few months ago, where he publicly signalled his interest in the state’s top political office.

According to him, his years of service in different capacities within government have provided him with the experience and insight required to effectively lead Oyo State.

“I am offering myself to serve as Governor of Oyo State, not out of ambition but out of conviction; not for power, but for purpose; not to be celebrated, but to empower,” Adeniran stated.

He highlighted his extensive record in public service, which includes serving as a Local Government Chairman, Commissioner and board member at both state and federal levels, noting that these roles have given him practical experience in governance and administration.

Adeniran said his engagement with communities across the state has also afforded him a deeper understanding of the peculiar challenges facing various parts of Oyo State.

He paid glowing tribute to Governor Seyi Makinde, describing him as a visionary leader whose administration has transformed the state through people-oriented policies and development programmes.

The OYOSUBEB chairman pledged that if elected governor, he would sustain and strengthen the achievements of the present administration.

“I am stepping forward to consolidate the good works of Governor Seyi Makinde, my leader and principal. Continuity is the foundation of sustainable progress, and Oyo State deserves nothing less,” he said.

Adeniran stressed that the legacy of the Makinde administration, widely known as the Omituntun agenda, must be preserved and expanded to ensure that the gains recorded in governance, infrastructure and social development are not reversed.

“The people of Oyo State do not want to lose the benefits of this administration. The legacy of Omituntun bequeathed to our state must not and shall not die,” he added.

Outlining his vision for the state, the PDP aspirant said his administration would prioritise quality education, youth empowerment, security and infrastructure development, while also promoting innovation and inclusive governance.

“My vision is simple: a state where every child has access to quality education, where our youths do not have to leave home to find opportunity, and where security is guaranteed for every citizen,” he said.

Adeniran noted that his ambition is rooted in the collective aspirations of the people of Oyo State, including farmers, traders, teachers, artisans, healthcare workers, civil servants and students.

He also underscored the critical role of the civil service in driving effective governance, describing a motivated and professional workforce as the backbone of government operations.

To this end, he pledged to strengthen the capacity of the Oyo State civil service through continuous training, improved welfare and the promotion of merit and innovation in the public sector.

The governorship aspirant further assured that his administration would create more employment opportunities for the state’s growing youth population by supporting entrepreneurship, attracting investment and expanding key sectors such as education, agriculture, technology and small-scale industries.

According to him, government must not only provide jobs but also create an enabling environment for businesses to flourish and citizens to thrive productively.

He therefore called on the people of Oyo State to support his aspiration, expressing optimism that collective commitment and unity would help build a future that coming generations would be proud of.

“I ask for your support, your prayers and your trust. Together, we will continue and elevate the legacy of excellence already being built in Oyo State,” Adeniran said.
