ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities across the state, recording a series of coordinated operations that led to the rescue of a kidnapped victim, arrest of suspects, and recovery of arms and illicit substances.
The development was disclosed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who outlined recent successes recorded by operatives in different parts of the state as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security.
In a major breakthrough, operatives of the Abraka Division successfully rescued a kidnapped victim who had been abducted by armed men at Denedo Extension on April 1, 2026. Acting on intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised patrol teams in collaboration with local vigilantes and hunters, leading to a swift operation in a nearby bush.
Faced with advancing security operatives, the kidnappers reportedly abandoned the victim and fled, allowing for a successful rescue along a railway line. The victim is said to be in safe condition and has provided valuable information to aid the ongoing manhunt.
In a related operation, operatives of the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) arrested a 29-year-old suspect, Evan Olokpa Igbunu, following a raid on his residence in Sapele, where a Baretta pistol and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered.
Similarly, police operatives in Ovwian-Aladja Division recovered substances suspected to be hard drugs during a raid along the Igbogidi axis after suspects fled upon sighting officers. Efforts are ongoing to track down those involved.
The Command also recorded the arrest of a suspected drug dealer, Tare Orusanaye, 26, during a raid at Jakpa Road, Effurun, where substances suspected to be cannabis, a weighing scale, and other items used in drug distribution were recovered.
Commending the officers for their coordinated response and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-driven policing and rid the state of criminal elements.
He called on residents to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with credible information, noting that effective policing thrives on community collaboration.
