OGBOMOSHO/Nigeria: A former House of Representatives candidate in Oyo State, Olufemi Onireti, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), bringing an end to years of active participation in the party.
Onireti’s resignation was conveyed in a letter addressed to the Chairman of PDP, Osupa Ward 9, in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area, dated April 4, 2026.
In the letter, the former aspirant described his decision as a difficult but necessary step taken after what he termed a period of “deep personal reflection.”
“I hereby formally resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately,” he stated.
He acknowledged the role the PDP played in his political journey, particularly providing him the platform to contest for the House of Representatives in the last general election, as well as opportunities for service, growth, and engagement within the political space.
Despite his exit, Onireti expressed appreciation to party leaders and members for their support and collaboration throughout his time in the party.
“I remain grateful for the opportunity to serve and for the relationships and experiences I gained during my time in the party. I wish the party well in its future endeavours,” he added.
The resignation is already stirring conversations within the political landscape of Ogbomoso North, with observers closely watching for indications of Onireti’s next political direction, amid speculations that his exit could signal a realignment ahead of future electoral contests.
