BURUTU/Nigeria: A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Thompson Robert-Fuoye, has formally stepped up his bid to represent Burutu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, having secured the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms ahead of the primaries.
In a calculated move to galvanise grassroots support, the aspirant returned to his hometown of Tuomo where he engaged constituents and articulated a development-focused vision, promising what he described as a “fresh breath” in governance and representation.
The event, christened “The Mother of All Declarations,” assumed a carnival-like atmosphere as supporters from within and outside the community thronged the venue in a rousing show of solidarity.
Among prominent figures who attended and openly endorsed his aspiration were former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Chief Godsday Peter-Orubebe; former member of the House of Representatives for Burutu Federal Constituency, Hon. Frank Enekorogha; and Chairman of Delta State Maritime Polytechnic, Burutu, Chief Julius Tarabiri-Government, alongside other stakeholders.
Their endorsements signposted a growing coalition of support, with several speakers stressing the urgency of a new direction in the constituency’s political representation.
Addressing the gathering, Fuoye positioned himself as the vehicle for that change, pledging to prioritise education, infrastructure development, and empowerment programmes targeted at youths and women across the constituency.
Running on the campaign theme “Fresh Breath,” he decried the absence of higher institutions within the constituency, noting that the gap has forced many young people to travel long distances in pursuit of tertiary education.
On his prospects in the contest, Fuoye expressed confidence in the APC’s internal democratic framework, stating that the party’s open contest policy guarantees fairness and equal opportunity for all aspirants.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu and the Delta State Governor for promoting internal democracy within the party structure.
Fuoye anchored part of his argument on zoning considerations, maintaining that it is the turn of the southern axis of the constituency to produce the next representative, adding that he remains the only APC aspirant from that zone.
In their separate remarks, Orubebe, Enekorogha and Tarabiri-Government echoed calls for fairness and equity, insisting that power rotation to the southern bloc remains critical to sustaining political balance within the constituency.
They urged constituents to support Fuoye’s candidacy, describing him as a credible and capable contender with the requisite track record to deliver effective representation and measurable development.
Also speaking, the APC Ward 3 Chairman in Tuomo, Mr. Nanah Bulouebi, described Fuoye as a grassroots politician with deep community roots, noting that his aspiration enjoys widespread acceptance across the constituency.
Meanwhile, Fuoye’s campaign organisation disclosed that consultations are ongoing across the constituency as part of a broader strategy to consolidate support ahead of the APC primaries.
