ASABA/Nigeria: The immediate past Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ochor Christopher Ochor, has congratulated the leadership of the 8th Delta State House of Assembly on what he described as three years of remarkable legislative achievements, purposeful leadership and unprecedented national recognition.
In a congratulatory message marking the third anniversary of the 8th Assembly, Ochor commended the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowhowho, and the Leader of the House, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, for providing exemplary leadership that has continued to enhance the image and prestige of the Delta State Legislature within and beyond the state.
He said the 8th Assembly, under the stewardship of Guwor, has demonstrated maturity, stability and an unwavering commitment to enacting people-oriented legislation, strengthening oversight functions and promoting harmonious collaboration with the executive arm of government in the overall interest of Deltans.
According to Ochor, the Assembly has distinguished itself as one of the most vibrant and progressive state legislatures in the country, maintaining high standards of legislative responsibility while contributing significantly to the advancement of democratic governance in Delta State.
The former Deputy Speaker particularly applauded the emergence of Speaker Guwor as Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of the 36 State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, describing the feat as a resounding endorsement of his leadership qualities, legislative experience and ability to unite his colleagues across the federation.
He noted that the elevation of the Delta Speaker to such a strategic national position has not only brought honour to the Delta State House of Assembly but has also placed the state at the forefront of legislative leadership in Nigeria.
Ochor also congratulated Deputy Speaker Arthur Akpowhowho on his emergence as Chairman of the Forum of Deputy Speakers of the 36 State Houses of Assembly, saying the development further reflects the confidence reposed in the leadership capacity of the Delta State Legislature by their counterparts nationwide.
He equally celebrated the Leader of the House, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, on his emergence as Chairman of the Majority Leaders Forum of the 36 State Houses of Assembly, describing the achievement as another testament to the quality of leadership being provided by the principal officers of the House.
According to him, it is unprecedented that the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Leader of one State Assembly simultaneously occupy the highest leadership positions in their respective national legislative bodies, a development he said underscores the respect, confidence and credibility the Delta State House of Assembly enjoys across the country.
“This remarkable achievement is not only a source of pride to the Delta State House of Assembly but also to the government and people of Delta State. It reflects the confidence that legislators across Nigeria have in the capacity, competence and integrity of our legislative leaders.
“I warmly congratulate the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowhowho, the Leader of the House, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, and indeed all members of the 8th Delta State House of Assembly on the successful completion of three impactful years in office.
“Their commitment to legislative excellence, unity, stability and democratic governance has continued to strengthen the institution and deepen public confidence in the legislature. I have no doubt that the Assembly will continue to set even higher standards in legislative service and contribute meaningfully to the development of Delta State and Nigeria,” Ochor stated.
