ASABA/Nigeria: Former Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, CON, celebrated his 67th birthday on Tuesday, with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori leading a wave of tributes in honour of the former governor’s decades-long career in public service and politics.
The governor described Okowa as a seasoned statesman whose contributions to governance have continued to shape Delta State’s political and development landscape, praising his commitment to leadership from the grassroots to the highest levels of public office.
In a goodwill message issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Oborevwori reflected on Okowa’s journey in public service, noting that he served in several strategic capacities before emerging governor of the state. According to him, the former governor’s experience as Secretary of the defunct Ika Local Government Council, pioneer Chairman of Ika North-East Local Government Council, Commissioner, Secretary to the State Government and Senator prepared him for the responsibilities he later assumed as Delta’s chief executive.
He said Okowa’s administration recorded interventions across key sectors of the state, adding that many of the policies and projects initiated during his eight-year tenure continue to influence Delta’s development.
Oborevwori also described the former governor as a respected political leader whose experience, strategic thinking and commitment to the growth of the state have earned him lasting recognition within and outside Delta.
Congratulating the former governor on the milestone, the governor said Okowa’s years in public office were defined by sacrifice, resilience and a sustained commitment to the welfare of the people, noting that his leadership left enduring footprints in the state’s governance.
He further acknowledged Okowa’s continued support for peace, unity and political stability in Delta State, saying his counsel and experience remain valuable to the state’s progress.
The governor prayed for God’s continued grace upon the former governor, wishing him sound health, wisdom, strength and many more years of impactful service to Delta State, Nigeria and humanity.
