ISIOKOLO/Nigeria: Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, has attributed the pace of infrastructure and social development across the state to what he described as the prudent management of public finances by Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, saying careful resource allocation has enabled the administration to deliver projects despite prevailing economic pressures.

Tonukari made the remarks while receiving members of the Ethiope East Chapter of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, who paid him a courtesy visit at his country home in Isiokolo ahead of the group’s inauguration scheduled for July 24.

The commissioner said the Oborevwori administration has adopted a governance approach that places emphasis on accountability, transparency and responsible spending, adding that such measures have strengthened the state’s capacity to execute projects in critical sectors without undermining fiscal stability.

According to him, the administration’s financial discipline has contributed significantly to ongoing investments in road infrastructure, education, healthcare, urban renewal and rural development across different parts of the state.

He noted that although governments across the country continue to grapple with economic challenges, Delta has maintained a steady pace of development through careful planning, prudent utilisation of available resources and the prioritisation of projects with direct impact on citizens.

Tonukari maintained that sustainable development is determined not only by the volume of available funds but by the efficiency with which public resources are managed.

“Our governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has demonstrated prudence in the management of public funds. His disciplined approach has enabled the state to execute projects across strategic sectors while maintaining fiscal responsibility,” he said.

The commissioner added that programmes implemented by the Ministry of Higher Education have benefited from the governor’s support for policies aimed at improving educational standards and expanding opportunities for young people.

He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to strengthening higher education and human capital development, describing education as a key driver of economic growth and long-term development.

Tonukari also said government policies would continue to align with the objectives of the MORE Agenda, which, according to him, is focused on improving public service delivery and expanding development opportunities across the state.

Earlier, leader of the delegation, Chief Julius Eguvwebere, said the visit was to appreciate the commissioner for what he described as his contributions to the development of Ethiope East Local Government Area and his support for educational advancement.

Eguvwebere commended Tonukari’s developmental interventions across communities in the council area, particularly in education, youth development and community empowerment.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to supporting initiatives that promote development and encourage greater grassroots participation in governance.

The delegation also expressed confidence in the direction of the Oborevwori administration, urging residents to continue supporting policies and programmes aimed at advancing development across Delta State.
