Delta Govt Directs Security Agencies to Track Down Perpetrators of Effurun Violence

ASABA/Nigeria: The has ordered security agencies to identify and bring to justice those behind Sunday’s violent incident in Effurun, describing the attack as unacceptable and warning that anyone found culpable will face prosecution.

The government’s response followed the circulation of videos on social media showing scenes of violence in the area, including the reported assault on Simon Mudi, which drew widespread public attention.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the government was deeply disturbed by the incident and condemned the violence in strong terms.

Aniagwu described the reported attack on Mudi and other acts of violence as unacceptable, stressing that such conduct has no place in Delta State.

He disclosed that the state government had directed relevant security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation, identify all those involved and ensure they are arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

“The Delta State Government will not tolerate any act of violence capable of threatening public peace or endangering the safety of residents,” the commissioner said.

Aniagwu reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration to maintaining peace, law and order across the state, emphasizing that no individual or group would be shielded from justice because of status, influence or affiliation.

He urged residents to remain calm, refrain from taking the law into their own hands and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.

The state government also assured the public of its resolve to protect lives and property while taking all necessary steps to ensure those responsible for the violence are held accountable.
