ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has acknowledged the contributions of former Governor Chief James Onanefe Ibori to the growth and development of the state, saying his leadership helped lay important foundations that continue to influence Delta’s progress.

Oborevwori made the remarks on Tuesday in a goodwill message commemorating Ibori’s 68th birthday, describing the former governor as a visionary leader whose years in office left a lasting imprint on the state’s political and developmental landscape.

The governor’s message was conveyed in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, who said Ibori’s tenure between 1999 and 2007 was marked by leadership that inspired confidence, strengthened governance and advanced public service in Delta State.

According to Oborevwori, the former governor’s vision, resilience and commitment to development earned him the respect of many Deltans and established a legacy that continues to resonate across the state.

He described Ibori as a dynamic leader and mentor whose contributions have remained relevant years after leaving office.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I congratulate our dynamic and inspirational leader, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, former Governor of Delta State, on his 68th birth anniversary,” the governor said.

Oborevwori prayed for God’s continued guidance, good health and strength for the former governor, expressing hope that he would enjoy many more years of fulfilment and service.

Chief Ibori served as Governor of Delta State from 1999 to 2007, overseeing the state’s early years under Nigeria’s Fourth Republic. His administration is widely associated with major infrastructure development, institutional reforms and the emergence of a generation of political leaders who have continued to play prominent roles in Delta State and national politics.
