ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has marked the 67th anniversary of the ascension of the Obi of Owa Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II, OON, describing the monarch’s long service as an important link between traditional leadership, peace-building and governance in the state.
In a goodwill message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor recognised Efeizomor’s contribution to the stability and development of Owa Kingdom and his engagement with successive administrations on issues affecting the people.
Efeizomor II ascended the throne on September 6, 1959, as the 17th Obi of Owa Kingdom, making this year’s celebration his 67th year as monarch. Earlier accounts of his reign have highlighted his involvement in education, community development and public affairs, as well as his service in the traditional rulers’ council.
Oborevwori particularly recalled the monarch’s tenure as Chairman of the Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers, saying his experience and counsel helped strengthen interaction between the traditional institution and government.
The governor also acknowledged the monarch’s efforts in promoting peaceful coexistence among communities and advancing the interests of Owa Kingdom and Delta State.
The recognition comes against the background of the governor’s broader emphasis on the role of traditional institutions in maintaining peace and supporting grassroots governance. In March, while represented at the monarch’s 88th birthday celebration, Oborevwori described traditional rulers as important links between government and the people and commended Efeizomor for his stabilising influence.
Oborevwori expressed appreciation for the monarch’s years of service and prayed for continued good health, strength and wisdom.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Delta State, I warmly celebrate with our revered father, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II, OON, the Obi of Owa Kingdom, on the auspicious occasion of his 67th coronation anniversary,” the governor said.
He described the milestone as a reflection of the monarch’s enduring commitment to the welfare of his people and wished him many more years of purposeful service.
The governor urged the people of Owa Kingdom to continue to support their monarch while preserving the kingdom’s cultural heritage and working collectively for its development.
