ASABA/Nigeria: Ambassador Elvis Chinedu Isiçheli, the Ndokwa/Ukwani Nation Peace Ambassador and Community Development Advocate, has called for equity, justice and fairness in the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education.
Isiçheli, in a statement, urged the relevant authorities to establish the facts surrounding the incident through a credible, thorough and impartial investigation, stressing that the process should be guided by evidence and due process.
The appeal comes amid an ongoing police investigation into Adeda’s death. The Delta State Police Command has said its homicide investigators are examining available evidence, including video footage, eyewitness accounts and medical records. The investigation has since widened, with the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, and other persons taken into custody.
Ashibogwu has denied ordering or participating in any assault on Adeda, saying his involvement followed reports of an incident involving the deceased. The competing accounts surrounding what transpired have not been conclusively established by the ongoing investigation.
Isiçheli therefore appealed to all parties and stakeholders to allow the appropriate authorities to complete their work without interference, saying the circumstances of the death should be determined through credible evidence rather than speculation, rumours or social-media narratives.
He said justice should uphold the dignity of Adeda and provide his family with answers while equally respecting the legal rights and presumption of innocence of anyone accused until the facts are established through due process.
“Let us reject rumours, hatred and premature conclusions,” he said, calling on stakeholders to allow truth and justice to prevail while maintaining peace.
Isiçheli further urged the public to remain calm and allow investigators to establish the sequence of events and determine responsibility, if any, based on evidence.
He said the need for justice should not undermine fairness, insisting that the investigation must be thorough, impartial and transparent.
