ASABA/Nigeria: Former Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has received endorsements from members of the Arewa and Yoruba communities in Oko and Asaba as his campaign for the Delta North Senatorial seat gathers political support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsements followed separate engagements between the two communities and a delegation of the Okowa Senatorial Campaign Organisation, led by its Director-General, Hon. Pascal Adigwe, on Sunday.
At Oko, in Oshimili South Local Government Area, Adigwe appealed to members of the Arewa community to support Okowa’s aspiration, describing the former governor as an experienced politician with the administrative capacity to represent the district effectively at the National Assembly.
He recalled Okowa’s eight-year administration in Delta State, highlighting investments in infrastructure, human capital development and initiatives aimed at maintaining peace and promoting social development.
Adigwe, who disclosed that Okowa was seeking the senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), urged the residents to support the party’s candidates across the various levels of government in 2027.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for their respective development programmes under the Renewed Hope Agenda and the M.O.R.E. Agenda.
According to him, the Federal Government’s economic reforms and the Delta State Government’s infrastructure drive were important aspects of the administrations’ development efforts.
Other members of the campaign delegation, including Barr. Ikechukwu Maduemezia and Hon. Sunny Obi, also called on the community to support APC candidates in the presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly elections.
Responding, the Chairman of the Arewa community in Asaba and Head of the Delta State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Auwul Turkur, expressed support for Okowa’s ambition and the APC, attributing their position to what he described as the party’s performance and growing acceptance.
Other community leaders, including Alhaji Abdullahi Suleman, Baba Rabiu, Abdul-Kadir Madaki and Lawal Iman, also pledged to mobilise support for the party ahead of the elections.
The campaign delegation subsequently visited members of the Yoruba community in Asaba, where it made a similar appeal for support for Okowa and other APC candidates.
Adigwe and members of his team emphasised the importance of political participation and collective mobilisation, urging the community to identify with the party’s candidates in the forthcoming elections.
Speaking on behalf of the Yoruba community in Delta State, its leader, Asiwaju Famour Maroof Lawal, alongside Dr. Yunus Adekola, Chief Otunba Fafowora, Babatunde Ismail and Madam Eunice Funke Aniche, expressed support for the APC-led governments.
The Yoruba leaders commended the administrations of President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori, pledging to work towards securing Tinubu’s re-election and the victory of other APC candidates in 2027.
The engagements form part of the Okowa campaign organisation’s consultations with community and political stakeholders as it seeks to build support for his proposed return to the National Assembly.
