ASABA/Nigeria: Widows enrolled in the Delta State Government’s Widows Welfare Scheme have received their October financial assistance, as the Sheriff Oborevwori administration continues its monthly intervention for vulnerable households across the state’s 25 local government areas.
The Executive Assistant to the Governor on Social Investment Programmes, Chief Dr Isioma Okonta, commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for maintaining the scheme, describing the continued payments as an important component of the administration’s social welfare commitments.
Okonta, who spoke with journalists in Asaba, said the initiative was designed to ease the financial difficulties confronting widows and provide additional support for families struggling to meet everyday household responsibilities.
He explained that the monthly stipends had become a source of assistance to beneficiaries, particularly those responsible for providing food, meeting their children’s needs and managing other essential family expenses.
According to him, sustaining the programme reflects the administration’s commitment to extending the benefits of governance to vulnerable members of society through targeted social investment initiatives.
He also linked the intervention to the people-centred objectives of the state’s MORE Agenda, noting that government policies should translate into practical support for residents facing difficult economic circumstances.
The governor’s aide assured beneficiaries that their welfare remained an important consideration for the administration, encouraging them to manage the financial assistance responsibly and make effective use of the support.
Some beneficiaries who spoke on the latest disbursement expressed appreciation to the state government for sustaining the programme.
They described the October payment as timely, noting that the financial assistance would help them attend to pressing household obligations and provide for their families.
The beneficiaries also commended Governor Oborevwori for maintaining the welfare initiative and expressed hope that the programme would continue to provide support to widows across Delta State.
