Bozimo Speaks Tough On Undue Arrests, Detention Of Deltans

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Isaiah Bozimo Esq, has assured that he would not condone any undue arrests and detention of Deltans in the state.

Bozimo, who played host to members of the Ijaw Youth Community in Asaba, revealed that the state government, as its part in the judicial service reform, had proposed a law to seek the cooperation of the Nigerian Bar Association, members of the Judiciary, the Correctional Centres and the Police, including his ministry on that burning issue.

He stressed further that the collaboration of his ministry with the critical stakeholders was to see where the lapses lay in the system so that it could be dealt with accordingly.

The Justice Commissioner, who lauded the leadership of the Ijaw Youth Community for appreciating the good work of the state governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, lauded them  further for keying into the initiatives that would take the Ijaw Nation to the next level in the state.

He promised to join in whatever capacity to project their aspirations to fruition, saying that “you are vibrant young men and women who want to change the narratives. I pledge my support of changing the narrative of our people.”

While congratulating them on their successful election as the leadership of the group, he charged them to work harder in advancing the course of their people to greater heights.

The spoke person of the group, Comrade Collins Enekorogha, told the commissioner that they were in his office to intimate him of their presence in Asaba and its environs, adding that they were graduates of outstanding academic backgrounds working in their respective organisations, while many others were still in the labour market searching for means of livelihood.

He explained that they decided to form the body to further dispel the belief that Ijaw youths were synonymous with vandalism, thuggery, criminality and other forms of uncooperative developmental approaches, adding that Ijaw youths were disciplined and dependable Nigerians who were not associated with criminalities and other social vices.

Comrade Enekorogha appealed for synergy between them and the commissioner in creating job opportunities and   empowerment programmes for the Ijaw youths in the state, adding that there was the urgent need to revisit the unjustifiable detention of some Ijaw youths in the Correction centres and other facilities in the state.

They commended Governor Okowa for his laudable programmes in youth empowerment and massive transformation of the entire landscape of Delta State.
