EFFURUN/Nigeria: The Vice Chairman, Counseling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), Delta State Chapter, Mrs Rose Obi has advised parents to monitor the use of technology by their children.
Obi, who doubles as the Chairman National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Uvwie Local Government Area Chapter, gave the advice in a her paper presentation at the prize giving day of Alvina School, Effurun Uvwie Local Government Area recently.
Obi, also the proprietress of City Child Foundation School, Ekpan Uvwie Local Government Area warned against addiction of children in technology.
While making references to several authorities to substantiate her claim, she stressed that over dependence on technology could have a negative impact on the lives of children.
“While we need technology to survive in a modern social world, an over reliance on it can also be socially devastating.
“When children experience stress, be it romantic rejection or poor grades on exams, technology can become a quick and easy way to fill basic needs and as such can be addictive,” she cautioned.
Obi then advised parents whose children were addicted to the use of technology to among other things find a balance as a solution to the problem.
Some of the solutions, according to her, were managing the game time in the use of the technology, and ensuring that technology devices were not installed in the bedrooms of children.
Obi tasked parents on the need to attend to their children at all times, explaining that the advice was necessary for proper upbringing of children.
