ASABA/Nigeria: The Crises rocking the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has taking a major twist, as the embattled chairman of the party in Delta State, Afamefune Enemokwu, has accused the deputy state chairman of the party of allegedly collecting money from a serving senator to destabilize the party.
He also alleged that the same persons causing confusion in Labour Party were the ones causing confusion in APGA, adding that they “Are out to bring the party to disrepute especially now that election was around the corner so as to scare candidates away from the party.”
Afamefune described the alleged crisis rocking the party as non-existent, saying the whole thing was an evil machination of some persons, who are now on the run, following a man-hunt for them by the police for falsifying documents to destroy the party.
But the deputy state chairman, Emmanuel Ibordor, in a swift reaction, dared Afamefune to call the name of the senator he claimed he (Ibordor) was collecting money from to destabilize the party.
“I dare you to call the name of the sitting senator I am collecting money from with proof. You are only looking for a way to escape from the reality at hand.
“So many allegations of financial misappropriation, gross incompetence among others were leveled against you, yet you are trying to shy away from the truth.
“What you are doing now is escapism, a philosophical theme where people, rather than confront a situation, look for an escape route thinking that in doing so the problem would be solved.”
He advised the embattled chairman to, rather than pointing accusing finger, be concerned about how to respond to the financial allegations leveled against him by the party, adding: “He (Afamefune) has been requested by the national body of the party to give account of his stewardship as that is the cause of the problem.
“Mr. Afamefune Enemokwu, is the too economical with the truth on the financial and unethical matters that led to his suspension. For the records, nobody is sponsoring anyone. I dare him, let him prove the allegation that a sitting senator is sponsoring a leader.
“Check the APGA Delta calendar of 2016 to 2017 and see the APGA full members, he printed the calendar. We have since sent a copy of the suspension outcome to the APGA national body and the security agencies.
“Nobody is on the run as claimed by Afamefune, in fact; the APGA national body is already intervening to control and address the situation. In no distant date the truth will suffice.”
Recall that the party’s leadership unanimously appointed the deputy state chairman, Emmanuel Ibodor, to serve as acting chairman of the party pending the report of a committee set up by the party to investigate the allegations leveled against Afamefune.
The resolution was reached in Ozoro, headquarters of Isoko lorth Local government area of the state during an emergency meeting of party after the leadership allegedly failed to gain entry into the party’s state secretariat in Asaba, the state capital.
The meeting had in attendance, executive of the party, party faithful, leaders, local government chairmen, ward chairmen, youths and women who came from the 25 local government areas to chart a way forward.
Prior to this meeting, the local government chairmen on February 6, 2018, had in a meeting, having x-rayed the activities of the chairman over the past 10 months, passed a vote of no confidence on the suspended chairman.
