Skill Acquisition, Panacea To Economic Growth, Poverty Reduction, Says Nwankwo

OKPANAM/Nigeria: Skill acquisition by youths and women, especially those with no other means of livelihood, has been described as key economic and income generation mechanism geared towards unraveling issues of poverty and unemployment in the society.

The CEO/ Coordinator, Kems Beauty Skill Acquisition Centre, Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area , Ms Nkem Nwankwo , who stated this during the 11th Graduation Ceremony of her trainees, said that the objective of establishing the centre was to make several jobless youths and women , self reliant.

Ms. Nwankwo, an Entrepreneur, recalled that the Centre had been in existence over 12 years ago and had been offering full range of self employment and vocational skill acquisition programmes for learners based on their ages, qualifications as well as areas of preferences

While enumerating the various  programmes and packages available in the  KEM Beauty Skill Acquisition Centre to include Decorations, Hair Dressing, Catering, Make Up, Tailoring ,  Beads Making and Make  Over among others, Nwankwo lauded the State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Chief Patrick Ukah, the traditional ruler of Okpanam Kingdom, Chief (Dr) Michael Mbanefo Ogbolu, who is the Ugoani of Okpanam and Chief (Dr) Sylvanus Ebigwei and other numerous individuals for their support and encouragement for the centre .

She congratulated the graduants for the commitments and enthusiasm showcased so far in their quest to actualise their potentials and admonished them to maximize the initiative to add more value to their lives and the society.

The CEO of KEMs Beauty Skill Acquisition Centre , however, noted that poverty could be eradicated through vocational training and empowerment and commended the State Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa for his administration’s commitment in tackling unemployment through the various empowerment programmes being carried out by it’s Job Creation office among others.
