ASABA/Nigeria: It was a morning filled with energy, praise, and purpose as the Wife of the Governor of Delta State and founder of the “You Matter Charity Foundation”, Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, on Saturday, October 18, 2025, led thousands of women and supporters in a fitness and wellness exercise tagged “You Matter Walk for Life.”

The colourful walk, which began at Inter-Bau Roundabout in Asaba and stretched through the Anwai–Illah Road to the Office of the First Lady at the New Government House, Asaba, brought together women from all walks of life. Participants engaged in brisk walking, aerobic sessions, songs of praise, and intermittent prayer stops, as they collectively targeted 10,000 steps each.

In her address, Deaconess Oborevwori said the initiative was designed to promote healthy living, spiritual renewal, and social bonding among women and families across Delta State. She described the You Matter Walk for Life as more than just a fitness challenge, calling it “a movement of purpose and transformation.”

“The goal of today’s walk is to achieve 10,000 steps! How do we reach this? By multiplying our individual efforts — one step at a time — walking together in unity and with a shared sense of purpose,” she declared. “A healthy body gives us the strength, clarity, and confidence to pursue our goals and fulfill our divine purpose.”

Quoting from 1 Timothy 4:8, the Governor’s wife urged participants to combine physical exercise with prayer for what she called “total transformation,” emphasizing that wellness must be holistic , encompassing physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

She commended the massive turnout of women, describing it as a reflection of their unity, enthusiasm, and readiness to support one another and align with the development vision of the Oborevwori administration. Deaconess Oborevwori also praised the Federal Road Safety Corps, fitness coaches, and the Government House Chaplain for ensuring a safe, orderly, and spiritually uplifting event.

“We have prayed, stretched, danced, and shared in the spirit of fun and togetherness. My prayer is that we all return home healthier, stronger, and happier than we came,” she said, assuring that the You Matter Walk for Life will not be a one-off event but a continuous platform for wellness and empowerment.

In a brief exhortation, the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, Venerable Charles Osemene, urged participants to embrace humility, unity, and service to God and humanity, while reminding them of the importance of gratitude and perseverance in their daily lives.

Speaking on behalf of the women, Mrs. Timiebi Guwor, wife of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Governor’s wife for her “motherly love, inspiration, and selfless concern for the well-being of Delta women.”

She prayed for divine strength and grace upon Deaconess Oborevwori to continue her charitable works and to support her husband, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, in advancing the More Agenda for Delta’s progress.

The event concluded with prayers for peace, health, and prosperity in Delta State, as jubilant women celebrated the success of the maiden edition of the You Matter Walk for Life, pledging continued support for the First Lady’s vision of holistic wellness and empowerment.
