ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command says widespread rumours alleging an attack on Girls’ Secondary School, Utagba-Ogbe, Kwale, on 24th November 2025 are false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.
The clarification was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer.
According to the Command, the panic originated from misinformation shared among students and was later amplified by unverified online reports claiming community unrest and alleged gunshots. Acting swiftly on the circulating reports, Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, ordered an immediate coordinated response.
The Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) of Kwale Division, SP Udofia Kufre, was deployed to lead a patrol team for prompt on-site verification and security assessment. On arrival, officers interviewed the Vice Principal of the school and the security man on duty, both of whom confirmed that there was no attack and that the scare stemmed entirely from student misinformation.
As part of precautionary measures, police teams visited adjoining schools within the Kwale axis. All institutions were found calm and fully engaged in their normal academic activities. Parents who hurried to pick up their children were advised to remain calm, as normalcy had been completely restored.
CP Abaniwonda strongly cautioned against the reckless spread of unverified rumours, stressing that such actions create fear and disrupt academic stability. He reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to respond swiftly to any credible threat and assured the public that all educational institutions across the state remain safe.
He also urged school authorities to strengthen internal communication systems, report suspicious activities promptly to the nearest police formation, and collaborate closely with local security outfits to enhance surveillance around school environments.
