ABUJA/Nigeria: Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, has emerged as National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, in an election which also saw the emergence of Rt Hon Ogundoyin Adebo, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, as Chairman, and the reappointment of Rt Hon Nasir Yahaya, the Speaker of the Kastina State Assembly, as Deputy Chairman.
The role of National Treasurer holds a significant position as the third-highest executive office within the Association, following the Chairman and Deputy Chairmanship roles.
Rt Hon Abubakar Suleiman, the Chairman of the Electoral and Caretaker Committee and Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, presided over the election process. Additionally, Rt Hon Abdulkarim Lawan, the Speaker of the Borno State Assembly, assumed the role of Financial Secretary within the newly elected executive team, which will steer the affairs of the organization for the next two years.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Ritz Continental Hotel in Abuja, introduced other notable officers representing different regions of the country:
Rt Hon Mohammed Abubbakar, Speaker of the Gombe State Assembly, representing the North-East.
Rt Hon Haruna Aliyu, Speaker of Jigawa State, representing the North-West.
Rt Hon Aondona Dajoh, Speaker of Benue State, representing the North-Central.
Rt Hon Adeoye Aribasoye, Speaker of Ekiti State, representing the South-West.
Rt Hon Uche Ugwu, Speaker of Enugu State, representing the South-East.
Rt Hon Abraham Ingobere, Speaker of Bayelsa State Assembly, representing the South-South.

In his response to the election victory, Speaker Emomotimi Guwor expressed his gratitude to God, emphasizing that good health and unwavering support had enabled him to qualify for this esteemed position. He extended his appreciation to the Speakers of the other 35 State Houses of Assembly for endorsing his nomination as Treasurer, pledging not to betray the trust they have placed in him.
Guwor also conveyed his thanks to the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevrwori, and the Members of the Delta State House of Assembly for their invaluable support, prayers, and encouragement. He assured everyone that he would serve as an exemplary ambassador for Delta State and bridge the gap between generations while setting a high standard for public officeholders.
In his closing remarks, Speaker Guwor stated, “I entered this contest believing in God that I would win. I approached the process, receiving all the necessary support from my Governor and my colleagues in the Delta State Assembly. It is a victory for all the lawmakers and Delta State as a whole. I must thank my colleague Speakers for the confidence reposed in me, and I assure them that I will serve without blemishes. Together with the Chairman and other executive members, we will take the Nigeria Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures to the next level of growth.”
Notably, the current Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevrwori, once held the position of Treasurer and later Deputy National Chairman of the States Assembly Presiding Officers’ body when he served as the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly.
