ASABA/Nigeria: The Chairman of the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Hon. Charles Chukwuemeke Emetulu, has expressed satisfaction with the state government’s commitment to technological advancement.
Hon. Emetulu stated this during an oversight visit to the State Ministry of Technical Education in Asaba, where he commended the efforts, stating, “Nigeria as a nation is desirous of technological advancement,” and highlighted the commendable strides made by the government in promoting technical education across the state.
Emetulu praised the previous administration for investing significantly in establishing technical schools, aiming to revive technical knowledge and enhance manpower. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing technical education to correct the overemphasis on theoretical knowledge, noting, “the unending desire for certificates has remained a major concern in Nigeria.” He urged for a focus on strengthening technical skills to align with the global economy.
The Chairman lauded the state government’s initiative to establish at least one technical college in each of the 25 local government areas, urging the ministry to prioritize effectively. He underscored the committee’s commitment to providing necessary support for the success of technical education in Delta State.
Accompanied by committee members, Hon. Emetulu inspected facilities at Model Technical College, Asaba, expressing satisfaction with the quality of equipment available. Despite acknowledging challenges such as power supply, he pledged the committee’s efforts to address them, urging increased budgetary allocation to the sector.
In response, Commissioner for Technical Education, Evang. Joan Onyemaechi, appreciated the committee’s visit and pledged collaboration to advance technical education. She called for concerted efforts from stakeholders to promote technological development in Delta State.
The oversight visit of the Assembly Committee on Education continues as part of its mandate to ensure the progress and effectiveness of educational initiatives in the state.
