ASABA/Nigeria: In a staunch effort to enhance public health and reduce disease outbreaks and preventable deaths, the Delta State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to implementing policies that prioritize healthcare and preventive measures.

Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, the State Commissioner for Health, reiterated this commitment during a message to Deltans commemorating the 2024 World Health Day, themed “My Health, My Right.” Observed annually on April 7th, World Health Day serves as a global platform to advocate for health as a fundamental human right.

“The Delta State Ministry of Health recognizes the importance of ensuring access to quality healthcare for every citizen without discrimination,” stated Dr. Onojaeme. “We are actively promoting the ONE HEALTH approach and implementing high-impact interventions to improve health outcomes.”

Addressing the shortage of healthcare personnel due to brain drain, the Commissioner highlighted recent efforts by the Governor Oborevwori administration to employ and deploy more doctors and nurses across the state’s 66 secondary health facilities. The recruitment process for other healthcare professionals is also nearing completion.

Additionally, the Ministry has procured and distributed hospital equipment to secondary and primary healthcare facilities, as well as enhanced the skills of healthcare workers to improve service delivery.

Dr. Onojaeme emphasized the Ministry’s focus on strengthening Primary Health Care Centers, essential for community diagnosis and treatment. He pledged to continue improving service delivery across all healthcare facilities in the State.

“On this World Health Day, we reaffirm our commitment to health as a human right, advocating for policies that prioritize health equity and empower individuals to make informed decisions about their well-being,” concluded the Commissioner.
