SAPELE/Nigeria: In a momentous occasion marking the 15th anniversary celebration of the Diocese of Sapele (Anglican Communion) and Investiture of Knights and Ladies, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, was honoured with the prestigious Defender of Faith and Life Encourager Award by the Sapele Diocese.
The distinguished award was presented to Governor Oborevwori during the anniversary event held at the Christ Church Pro-Cathedral in Sapele on Sunday. Governor Oborevwori actively participated in the service by taking the Old Testament lesson, centered around the theme “Exceeding Grace.”
Congratulating Bishop Erifeta and the entire Sapele Diocese on their 15th anniversary, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the importance of unity within the Sapele Diocese of the Anglican Communion. He highlighted the role of peace in fostering growth and development within any nation.
Governor Oborevwori expressed his gratitude for the honor, stating, “It is my honor to accept this award bestowed on me by the Sapele Diocese, and this will spur me to do more. I thank the Diocese for finding me worthy to receive such an honor.”
Reflecting on the unity within other dioceses, he urged for greater cohesion within the Sapele Diocese. Drawing parallels to his own political journey, he emphasized the need for unity and inclusivity, stating, “Just like me when some people were saying I cannot be Governor, who is Sheriff? But God made it possible.”
Governor Oborevwori reiterated his commitment to serving all Deltans, regardless of political affiliations, and shared instances of reaching out to political opponents in times of need.
The Governor further acknowledged the pivotal role the Diocese played in promoting peace and security in Warri and across the state. He urged continued efforts in preaching the word of God for repentance, emphasizing its role in promoting peace and security.
In a sermon titled “Blessing of Obedience,” delivered by Most Rev’d Cyril Odutemu, the Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of Bendel and Bishop of Ughelli Diocese, emphasized the importance of obedience in achieving success. He congratulated the Sapele Diocese on its 15th anniversary and urged Christians to embrace obedience to God.
Bishop of Sapele Diocese, Rt Rev’d Blessing Erifeta, expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for attending the anniversary thanksgiving service, considering it as evidence of the exceeding grace of God. He highlighted the church’s continued partnership with the government, specifically in praying for leaders to provide good governance for the country.
