WARRI/Nigeria: The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), through its Directorate of Social Services, has launched a campaign targeting secondary schools within its mandate areas.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Community Development & Enlightenment, is in collaboration with the Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Student Affairs, Dr. Okoh Ezekiel Oghenetega.
According to a statement released by Mrs Chinenye Ezonfade, Head of the Department, the campaign is aimed at curbing the rising cases of drug abuse, cultism, cybercrime, and other social vices among youths.
The statement further said, that while the focus is currently on secondary schools, it noted that these issues are increasingly prevalent in tertiary institutions as well, highlighting the need to extend the initiative to higher education settings.
It stated that the Delta State government remains committed to fostering a safer and more secure environment for its citizens.
Through this proactive educational outreach, it hopes to equip students with the knowledge and tools to resist these harmful behaviours and contribute to a more productive society.
