The Delta State government had called on the beneficiaries of the various empowerment programmes embarked by the present government, under Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa not to disappoint her.
The call was made on behalf of the state government by the Executive Assistant to the governor on Religious Matters, Bishop Greatman Nmalagu when he paid a visit to the orientation camp of the over 300 beneficiaries of the second batch of the first phase of the empowerment programme, at Songhai, Amukpe on Friday, September 4, 2015 in company of other ministers of God to pray for them and the state government.
The aide to the governor, who spoke to the press at the occasion called on the youths who are the main beneficiaries of the programmes to ensure they make full use of the benefits of the knowledge gained during the orientation exercise and in the course of their training in the coming months to justify the essence of the programme by the Okowa’s administration, as any form of disappointment will not be tolerated but will be seen as a waste of resources by the government.
Bishop Nmalagu stated that, the programme is one of the best thing that had happened to the people since the coming of the present government, on May 29, 2015, and could only be sustained by the help of the beneficiaries.
“This programme is meant to bring prosperity to all Deltans through the skills the youths will acquire, so that they can individually and collectively establish themselves, through which other persons can be trained”. He said.
According to him, the programme is one of the means the economy of the individual Deltan and Nigeria can be improved, as it will reduce poverty, and crime in the society, as joblessness has been one of the main cause of crime in the country.
Earlier, before the prayer which was jointly said by Bishop (Dr.) Joseph Ataligho Oritseye, Bishop Adirien Handel and Pastor (Mrs.) Queen Ogedegbe, Bishop Nmalagu, gave a talk to the participants on “Attitude”, using 1 Peter 1: 9-12, reminding them that their attitudes is highly required to prove that the government did not waste the trust and resources in embarking on the programme.
In the same vain, he called on them not to be like the servants in the book of Matt. 25: 14-18, who was giving a talent by his master but instead of putting the talent into use decided to bury it, waiting for the master to come back from his journey, he told them, such attitude will be against the aims and objectives of the programme and it will be a crime as such behaviour will be counterproductive to the expected gains.
Meanwhile, participants at the programme had thanked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for introducing the programme and had assured him that they will make use of the knowledge acquired during the training to contribute positively to the economy of the state.
The visit was rounded up with prayers for the Governor of Delta state, and his cabinet, the president of Nigeria, President Mohammadu Buhari, for peace in Delta and Nigeria, and for the SMART agenda of the Okowa’s government.
