Ezechi Backs Anioma State Creation, Stipulates Inclusion in South-South Zone
ABUJA/Nigeria: Rt. Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, the representative of Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, has clarified his conditional support for the creation of Anioma State, stating that his backing hinges on the new state being part of the South-South geopolitical zone.
In a statement issued by his Senior Legislative Aide, Princewill C. C. Ogbolu, Ezechi made the clarification during a journalists’ forum held in Asaba on Sunday. He addressed concerns about his stance on the proposed state, stressing that while he is not opposed to the idea, his support is contingent on it serving the interests of the South-South region and his constituency.
“I am not against the creation of Anioma State,” Ezechi affirmed. “However, my support is conditional on it being within the South-South Geopolitical Zone. This is the directive from my constituents in Ndokwa/Ukwuani.”
This statement was made in response to misinterpretations that suggested Ezechi had fully endorsed the bill proposed by Senator Ned Nwoko advocating for Anioma State. While acknowledging the potential benefits of the new state in promoting equity and representation, Ezechi emphasised that any move must align with the geopolitical and economic interests of his people.
The lawmaker also took the opportunity to address broader national issues, particularly the challenges facing Nigeria in law enforcement. He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to demonstrate stronger commitment to enforcing existing laws and tackling the country’s pressing concerns.
Additionally, Ezechi lauded Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his attention to the Ndokwa nation, expressing satisfaction with the progress in attracting federal and state presence to his constituency. He commended the Governor’s efforts in ensuring that development projects are being delivered across the region.
