LAGOS/Nigeria: Hundreds of fun seekers on Tuesday thronged the Atican Beach in Ajah area of Lagos State to celebrate the Mawlid-al-Nabil (the birthday of Prophet Muhammad)
Visitation to the beach have it that people of all ages were seen catching fun while some others were entertaining themselves with foods and drinks.
A fun seeker, Mr Bayo Taiwo, said that the holiday declared by the Federal Government to mark the occasion offered him time to spend with his friends.
“I have been looking forward to this season. It’s a period to have nice time with friends and relations.
“I had been to this place on several occasions in the past and being able to make loads of memories here especially with my family and friends,” he said.
Also, Miss Banke Banire, a banker, who said she had been looking forward to the holidaysaid that the break had afforded her some time away from work.
She said: “I was looking forward to the break so I can get the deserved rest at a serene environment from the stress of work.
“To be honest, the stress from work has been so much; so coming to the beach to relax has helped a lot in easing my mental stress.”
Mr Femi Olumiyide who came to the beach in company with his family said he came to ease his emotional burdens.
“I’m here with my family to catch fun and have the time of my life for the time being so l don’t have to worry about anything for now.
“I’m glad for the public holiday as it has given me more time to come here, enjoy the serene environment and cool my head,” he said.
A meat seller at the beach also noted that holiday periods were lucrative for his `Suya’ business.
“I have made money from my business today because several fun seekers have been patronising me today.
“I wish there can be more public holidays because during this period, I usually make a lot of money. It makes me happy,” he said.
An official of the beach who pleaded not to be identified because he was not authorised to speak to the press said that the beach had been attracting hundreds of fun seekers.
“The large turnout of people on this beach is a daily occurrence because the beach is clean and of high standard.
“Several fun seekers come here on a daily basis to catch fun due to the standard we have maintained over the years,” the official said.
