Asaba/Nigeria: In a recent meeting with youth leaders from various ethnic nationalities in Delta State, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, issued a challenge to the youths, urging them to prioritize the interest of the state in all their endeavors.
During a courtesy visit paid by the Delta State Ethnic Nationality Youth Leaders Forum to the Speaker’s office at the Delta State House of Assembly Complex, Rt Hon. Guwor expressed his commitment to promoting youth inclusiveness in governance, both from a legislative perspective and within the executive branch.
“This visit shows that you are indeed happy that one of your own, a youth, is currently the Speaker of the State Assembly,” Speaker Guwor stated. “I want to assure you that I will not let the youths down. I will definitely make all of you proud. I will use my strength as youth to impact positively on humanity.”
Guwor emphasized the importance of youth involvement in both the legislature and the executive, vowing to ensure that young people are actively engaged in decision-making processes. He called on the youths to prioritize the state’s interests in their actions, stating, “As youths, you should ensure that you put the state first in all your doings.”
Expressing gratitude for the visit, Speaker Guwor reiterated the commitment of the State Assembly to enacting laws that promote peace and good governance within the state.
The spokesperson for the delegation, Mr. Ovie Umuakpo, congratulated Speaker Guwor on his emergence as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and seized the opportunity to advocate for greater youth representation in ongoing appointments within both the executive and legislative arms of the government.
The Speaker, accompanied by the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, the Majority Leader, Hon Emeka Nwaobi, and other officials, warmly received the visitors and engaged in productive discussions.
As Delta State continues to navigate its path towards progress and development, the active participation of the youth, as championed by Speaker Guwor, promises to play a vital role in shaping the future of the state.
