Nation-Building is Our Collective Responsibility, Says Former APC Delta Chairman, Prophet Jones Elue

ASABA/Nigeria: As Nigeria celebrates yet another Independence Day, former Delta State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prophet Jones Elue, has urged Nigerians to reflect on their individual roles in the nation’s progress.

In a message to the nation, Elue highlighted that Independence Day is more than a celebration of freedom – it is a reminder of the collective responsibility every citizen bears in contributing to the growth and prosperity of the country.

“Independence Day marks the triumph of resilience, unity, and the relentless pursuit of freedom. It is a testament to the sacrifices made by countless individuals who envisioned a sovereign nation where every citizen could thrive,” Elue stated. He further noted that this significant day should inspire all Nigerians to honour the sacrifices of those who fought for freedom by actively engaging in the ongoing task of nation-building.

According to Elue, nation-building is not the sole responsibility of the government but requires the active participation of all Nigerians, regardless of their professions. He emphasised that every citizen has a crucial role in shaping a prosperous and equitable society.

“Whether you are a teacher, doctor, engineer, artist, or entrepreneur, your contributions are vital to the nation’s progress. Each profession plays a unique role in creating a society that is both resilient and inclusive,” Elue remarked.

He highlighted the pivotal role of educators in nurturing future generations, describing their work as an investment in the nation’s future. “By fostering critical thinking and a love for learning, teachers lay the foundation for informed citizens who will carry forward the mantle of progress.”

Elue also paid tribute to healthcare professionals, whom he called the “backbone of a thriving society.” He stressed that access to quality healthcare is fundamental to ensuring that citizens can live productive lives, contributing to the country’s overall well-being.

Turning to economic development, Elue noted the importance of innovators and industry leaders in driving economic growth. He called for greater support for local businesses and entrepreneurship, viewing this as crucial to Nigeria’s sustainable development and improved global standing.

The former APC Chairman also spoke on the significance of the arts and culture in nation-building. He lauded artists and cultural practitioners for preserving Nigeria’s heritage while promoting unity and inspiring social change. Supporting the arts, he said, ensures that the nation’s cultural legacy is passed on to future generations and encourages ongoing dialogue and understanding.

Elue concluded by calling for active civic engagement, reminding Nigerians that a vibrant democracy depends on an informed and committed citizenry. “Democracy flourishes when citizens are engaged, participate in the political process, and hold their leaders accountable,” he said, urging Nigerians to take their roles in the democratic process seriously.

As Nigeria commemorates Independence Day, Prophet Jones Elue’s message serves as a powerful reminder that the journey of nation-building is far from complete. He called on every Nigerian to renew their commitment to the nation’s future, saying, “Together, let us build a brighter, more inclusive future for all.”
