ASABA/Nigeria: The National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) has said that it would partner with the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development in empowering women and youths in Delta State.
The Director General of the centre, Dr Asabe Vilita Bashir, made this known during the grand finale of the graduation and empowerment ceremony of the Post COVID-19 Intervention programme, held at the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development premises in Asaba, the state capital.
The NCWD DG, who was represented by one of director in the centre, Lady Nneka Elonu, pointed out that the pandemic was still impacting negatively in the lives of people, particularly on women who were the victims of gender based violence and had suffered a high loss in revenue.
The DG said that the centre had embarked on a sensitisation drive on COVID-19 protocols, training and empowerment of women across the six geopolitical zones in the country as part of its empowerment project, following the advent of the pandemic.
She urged the 45 empowered women in the state who were trained on catering and tailoring and the other set of 80 indigent women also empowered with seed grants of N20,000 each to make judicious uses of what they were empowered with, adding that it would justify the purpose of the empowerment exercise.
The Permanent Secretary (PS) in the ministry, Mrs. Oghenekevwe Agas, applauded the initiative of the centre for Women Development, saying that it was commendable and a worthy contribution to sustainable national development, especially for women in Delta state.
Mrs. Agas advised the beneficiaries to remain focused, saying that there was definitely more to come through such collaborations for women and youths in the state.
