ABUJA/Nigeria: The prayers and expectations of Public and Civil Servants in Nigeria seems to have been answered as there are indications that all their salary arrears will be paid before the end of year 2017 as President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the 36 State governors.
According to reports, President Muhammadu Buhari had directed state governments to ensure the payment of all outstanding workers’ salaries.
Confirming the directive, the Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha said the payment of the arrears is not a function of directive but that it is dependent on the president’s approval of the payment of the 50% Paris Club Loan refund.
Meanwhile, all 36 Nigerian governors have said they will abide by the directive as given by President Muhammadu Buhari to pay all outstanding workers’salary arrears before Christmas according to Premium Times.
Ndokwareporters have however gathered that the governors gave a condition to be met by the presidency for them to comply holistically with the directive.
Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, made this known yesterday, while briefing State House correspondents after the governors held a closed-door meeting with the president.
Okorocha, who confirmed the directive from President Buhari said the payment of the arrears is dependent on the president’s approval of the payment of the 50% Paris Club loan refund.
He said: “Yes, with the Paris Club coming, every worker should enjoy his/her Christmas.
“The president has expressed the need to ensure that every Nigerian especially the workers have a beautiful Christmas and the issue of outstanding Paris club was discussed and that was taken care of.
“We also made a request for Mr. President’s approval so that the balance should form part of our 2018 budget, because we can’t include it, until we are sure that the money is coming.
That was also sorted out. “So, as it is now, the issue of workers took the centre stage and Mr. President was concerned about those who depend on their salaries to feed their families and pay their house rent and he had the assurance from the governors that we will meet up those obligations.”
According to reports, President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday approved the payment of outstanding Paris club.
President Buhari have called on his ministers to expedite action on his directive and work with the State Governors to ensure the payment of outstanding Paris and London Clubs refunds before the end of 2017.
