The directive which was giving on Saturday, March 18 2017, said that the government has in their part fulfilled all obligations as demanded by the Nigerian Union of Teachers, (NUT).
In the statement the government said, “The continued sympathy strikes by Secondary School Teachers, in the state, in solidarity with their Primary School Counterparts are quite unreasonable and uncalled for as matters concerning promotions and inter cadre transfer, have been approved and implemented”.
However, investigations by our reporters in the state showed that the schools remained under lock and key, as teachers who went to school as directed by the state governor could not gain access to their offices.
Some of the teachers, who spoke to our reporters in Warri and Asaba, said the secondary school teachers are affected by conditions 8, 9, and 10 which is on staff promotions, salary arrears, and upgrading the promoted staff to their new level.
According to one of the teachers, “I was promoted in 2015, when I was supposed to get promotion in 2014, I had received my letter of promotion, but till date I am still been paid my old salary of Level 12. The arrears are hanging. And now I had filled another promotional form”. She said.
According to the teachers, the NUT had done a bad PRO, they had lost the war, which is press war as they had refused to tell the world the true story.
