OKIJA/Nigeria: The Founder of Gonzaga Jesuit College, Okija, and Chairman of the Obijackson Group, Ernest Azudialu-Obiejesi, has restated his commitment to quality education and youth development as he led the 2025 Benefactors’ Day celebration, marking the commissioning of three new buildings in the institution.
The event, held on the school grounds in Okija, Anambra State, drew students, staff, Jesuit priests, parents, community leaders and benefactors who gathered to celebrate the generosity and vision that have driven the college’s growth since inception.
Dr. Obiejesi commissioned two modern hostels—one each for male and female students—a new classroom block, and upgraded Jesuit Academy facilities, additions that further strengthen the school’s mission of providing world-class learning and character formation.
Speaking during the ceremony, Obiejesi emphasised the transformative power of education and the need for continuous investment in young people.
“Education is one of the greatest gifts we can give the next generation,” he said. “It prepares our children to face life’s challenges, think critically, and grow into responsible citizens. We were once like these children, and it is our duty to create environments that help them discover who they are and what they can become.”
He expressed gratitude to the Jesuit leadership and the wider school community for their support, adding that Benefactors’ Day remains an important tradition for acknowledging the generosity that built and continues to sustain the institution. Despite national challenges, he thanked God for the success of this year’s celebration and pledged further support, including improved electricity supply and expanded facilities.
Earlier, the ceremony began with a Holy Mass led by the President of the College, Rev. Fr. Jude Obiaka, who described the school as “a garden for greatness, a sanctuary for learning, and a community where young people discover their purpose.”
Fr. Obiaka said the day offered an opportunity to honour the donors whose sacrifices erected the school’s structures and continue to broaden its mission.
Members of the school community—including the Principal, Rev. Fr. Franklyn Ibeli (SJ); the Vice Principal (Academic Affairs), Rev. Sr. Vivian Chidimma Eke; and the Head Girl, Vinisa Umeji—expressed appreciation for Obiejesi’s unwavering commitment to the college’s advancement.
In a symbolic gesture of encouragement, Dr. Obiejesi and his wife, Nnenna, presented school bags to all students, reinforcing their support for the learners’ academic journey.
The celebration concluded with renewed dedication to the values on which Gonzaga Jesuit College was founded. With the newly commissioned hostels and classroom block, the school continues its steady rise as one of Nigeria’s emerging centres of academic excellence.
Through the Obijackson Foundation, Obiejesi reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening education, empowering communities and preparing the next generation for a future of limitless potential.
