IBUSA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Chief James Ibori, and former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Alex Ogomudia (rtd), were among prominent Nigerians who on Friday attended the funeral mass of the late Chief Raphael Odiaka Ezeoba in Ibusa, Delta State.
Governor Oborevwori was represented at the solemn ceremony by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA.
The funeral mass, held at St. Thomas’ Catholic Church, Ogbowele, Ibusa, in honour of the father of former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Dele Ezeoba (rtd), attracted an impressive gathering of retired and serving military officers, political leaders, and statesmen. Among them were Air Marshal O. Pentririn, Vice Admiral V. K. Ombu, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd), Chief Patrick Ukah, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Prince Nduka Obaigbuna, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, Comrade Ovuozorie Macaulay, and Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei.
In his homily, Very Rev. Fr. Norbert Uchunor urged leaders at all levels to embrace a leadership style rooted in service, truthfulness, and selflessness. He emphasized that true leadership is not defined by titles or material acquisitions, but by good deeds and genuine service to humanity.
He noted that grief at the passing of a loved one should also reflect the loss of their good works, describing the late Chief Ezeoba as “a gentleman, peacemaker, devoted public servant, principled community leader, and a man of strong conviction.”
“Today, we are celebrating a man of integrity—a life of faith, service, love, and forgiveness,” he said. “His life was an epitome of discipline, compassion, service to humanity, and faith in God.”
Fr. Uchunor reminded Christians that legacy is measured not by wealth but by the goodness, love, and integrity lived out daily. He cautioned that old age becomes a curse only when elders abandon truth and honesty.
He encouraged all to live in righteousness and peace, stressing the importance of leaving behind a legacy defined by integrity, love, and service to God and humanity.
