WARRI/Nigeria: The Hausa Quarter area along Warri-Sapele Road was in a state of pandemonium as residents and traders of the nearby Igbudu Market ran for their dear lives during a bloody clash between two rival cult groups in the afternoon of Friday 22nd April, 2022.

Initial report had it that a life was lost during the clash and that it took the intervention of men of the Nigerian Army to restore normalcy to the area.

When the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Police Headquarters, Asaba, DSP Bright Edafe was contacted for confirmation, he said that he was yet to be brief on the incident.

He promised to get back to our correspondent but he has done so at as the time of filing this report.

However, the (traditional representative of the Ovie of Agbarha Warri of Otovwodo (Agbassa) Community Warri, Chief Julius Edafiadjebre confirm in a chat with our correspondent that there was a clash.

He said that during the clash a non-cult member was seriously injured in Igbudu Unit 11 Community where he is the chairman.

Edafiadjebre disclosed that the injured person was receiving treatment in an undisclosed private clinic in Warri.

He lamented that the menace of cult members had given the area a bad name and also made it unsafe for law-abiding residents.

The Agbarha Warri chief also clarified that the ongoing clash of the hoodlums was not between indigenes of the area and Arewa people. But simply noted: “It is between rival cult groups.”

“We have been living in peace with Arewa for a long time,” he added.

Edafiadjebre concluded that it was therefore wrong for anybody to state that the clash was between natives of the area and Arewa people.
