LAGOS/Nigeria: Orodata Science, in collaboration with the Africa Data Hub (ADH), has launched the Pan-African Newsroom AI Governance Network, a continent-wide initiative designed to strengthen ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption across African media organisations.
The network aims to co-create a unified AI Governance Framework that will promote responsible AI use, protect editorial independence and bolster public trust in media systems. Its objectives align with Nigeria’s National AI Strategy as well as the United Nations’ “Leave No One Behind” principle under the Sustainable Development Goals.
According to the organisers, while AI tools offer newsrooms unprecedented opportunities for efficiency and innovation, they also introduce complex ethical, operational and accountability challenges. The new network is expected to tackle these issues by developing clear guidelines for responsible AI use, training newsroom personnel on ethical practices and establishing a collaborative governance model that incorporates diverse perspectives from across the continent.
Orodata Science said the initiative is open to AI experts, journalists, media leaders and media organisations across Africa. Interested participants can scan the QR code on the campaign flyer to offer insights and recommendations.
A virtual workshop for drafting the Pan-African AI Governance Framework is scheduled for December 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Contributors will be acknowledged in the published document, gain the opportunity to shape ethical AI standards for African journalism and receive access to future capacity-building programmes and framework reviews.
