Oyo State Anti-corruption Agency Empowers Nursing Students to Combat Corruption in Education

IBADAN/Nigeria: The Oyo State Anti-corruption Agency (OYACA) orchestrated a compelling session on Friday, aimed at enlightening and engaging students of the Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery in the critical battle against corruption within educational institutions.

Chaired by the distinguished Honorable Justice Eni Esan (rtd.), the gathering focused on imparting knowledge about financial crimes, the insidious nature of corruption, and empowering students to shield themselves against falling prey to such deceitful practices.

Justice Eni Esan emphasized the significance of this outreach, elucidating the pivotal role that educational institutions, especially tertiary ones like the College, play in combating corruption. Underlining these institutions as the breeding grounds for future leaders, she urged the students to become ambassadors of anti-corruption measures, particularly in countering the surge of cyber-crime largely perpetuated by young individuals.

Addressing the students directly, Justice Eni Esan stressed, “At the completion of your training here, you will become qualified medical personnel who will work in different health sectors all over the world. We want you to imbibe the anti-corruption spirit from the onset so as to guard against corruption and prevent all forms of corrupt practices that are predominant.”

Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, the Provost of the Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery, echoed the significance of accountability, asserting that there should be no justification for any form of transgression. Commending Oyo State’s pioneering efforts in tackling corruption, Dr. Owolabi expressed optimism that other states would follow suit in this noble initiative.

Highlighting the importance of upholding and reinforcing policies within the nursing profession, Dr. Owolabi emphasized the profession’s inherent discipline and ethical standards. Assuring OYACA of the College’s unwavering support in adhering to these policies, she pledged to uphold an exemplary standard among the country’s academic institutions.

The collaborative efforts between OYACA and the College of Nursing and Midwifery underscore a proactive approach to instilling ethical values and fortifying the anti-corruption stance among future healthcare leaders.
