Based on recent news making the round that a publisher in Delta State committed suicide over poor sales of newspaper; we, the members of the Community Newspaper Publishers Association of Nigeria (CONPAN), Delta State Chapter hereby refute that news report, which was carried in the Olofofo page of the Pointer Newspaper and some sections of the on-line media.
We want to put on record that based on the new leadership of CONPAN, we have a clear statistics of our members in Delta State, which is intact. We do not know any publisher who resided in Achalla-Ibusa, Asaba but from Ohaozala; who decided to take his own life because of poor sales of his newspaper and family demands.
On this note, we want to assure our members in Delta and across the country, and of course, the general public that there was nothing of such, they should go about their normal businesses and not to show any interest in such publication.
It is our prayer that no publisher in Delta will die again below the age of 80 years. The last regret we will ever have is the death of Mrs. Stella Akpomughe Egberenede, publisher of Epitome Weekly and Comrade Broad-Robins Oghomu, publisher of the Blade Newspaper.

PATRICK OCHEI
