The call for the creation of Anioma State has gained momentum, transcending political affiliations and becoming a collective aspiration resonating across Delta State, particularly in Delta North. Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, emphasised this sentiment during a recent courtesy visit to the Asagba of Asaba, Obi Prof. Epiphany Azinge, at his palace.
Senator Nwoko described the renewed push for Anioma State as a “spirit and a movement” that unites the people of Anioma beyond partisan boundaries. He disclosed that discussions regarding the state’s creation have progressed significantly, involving the presidency, as well as the leadership of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Speaking to the traditional ruler, Nwoko said, “This is something I have personally discussed with the President and the leadership of the National Assembly. I am confident Anioma State will be created. However, we need your blessings, guidance, and unwavering support to bring this vision to fruition.”
The senator recounted past conversations with the Asagba, highlighting the monarch’s longstanding support for the Anioma cause. “Many years ago, Your Majesty visited me at my residence in Abuja to discuss the Anioma project. I know your commitment to this vision has never wavered,” Nwoko remarked.
He stressed that the Anioma State movement has transcended party politics, stating, “If you ask the average Anioma son or daughter to choose between APC, PDP, Labour Party, or SDP, their answer would be Anioma. This is not about political parties. It is about our collective identity and future. When the time comes, we will return to this palace for your further counsel and blessings.”
The renewed advocacy for Anioma State underscores the unity and determination of the people of Delta North to achieve recognition and development through statehood. Senator Nwoko’s commitment to this cause reflects the growing consensus among Anioma stakeholders and their belief in the feasibility of the project.
