ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission ((UBEC) has concluded the First Term five-day capacity building workshop for over 2,600 teachers and support officers in the state.
The workshop, which held simultaneously across the 25 Local Government areas of the state in 50 centres, was aimed at improving teaching standard and easy learning in public primary schools.
Hon. Sunny Ogwu, Chairman of SUBEB, while speaking to newsmen in Asaba, the state capital, explained that the workshop was designed to sharpen the skills of teachers in the state.
The SUBEB boss, while highlighting the importance of the training, stated that training in the Thematic Areas, using Learners Centred approach would help to engage the pupils in classroom teaching, build self-esteem and develop their ability.
He said that pupils would be able to learn and retain more information through the Learners Centred approach, adding that it encouraged the involvement of all children with different abilities.
The Director of Teacher Development Department in the board, Mrs. Juliet Ezefili, called on participants to put into practice the knowledge gained from the training in planning their lessons and teaching, adding that the School Support Officers would commence their Support Mechanism as from Monday, September 20, 2021 to the various participating schools in the state.
School Based Model involves taking a school in turn, training all the teachers in the school and giving them professional support for one academic session.
A total of 2,600 participants from public primary schools and 50 School Support Officers from the various Local Government Education Authorities of the state participated in the workshop.
