Warri Stadium to Be Deflooded Soon, Says Delta State Governor

WARRI/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has announced the imminent award of a contract aimed at deflooding the Warri Stadium and its surrounding areas.

During an inspection of discharge channels at Ogbe-Ijoh market on Thursday, Governor Oborevwori expressed concern over the blocked drains surrounding the stadium, attributing the issue to refuse accumulation.

Addressing the press, Governor Oborevwori condemned the construction of buildings on waterways and pledged their removal to facilitate unimpeded water flow.

“We started from the Warri Township stadium to Bowen Avenue to the Ogbe-Ijoh market. For years, we have been having flooding issues in this area, which has been affecting the stadium and the environs,” stated the Governor.

He emphasized the necessity of channelling water through drains and box culverts to mitigate flooding, highlighting ongoing efforts by Levant Construction Company to desilt water channels.

“It is a difficult terrain, and people have already built on waterways. All the buildings on the waterways would be removed. You can see clearly that people are dumping refuse on the drains, thereby hindering the free flow of water,” Governor Oborevwori added.

With the impending contract award, the Governor expressed optimism that the area’s drainage system would be restored, ensuring improved water flow and mitigating the impact of flooding.
