WARRI/Nigeria: No fewer than 100 residents of Effurun in Uvwie LGA have benefitted from the one day free medical check by Remex pharmacy in Effurun with most of them describing it as a welcome development.
The one day medical programme which was part of activities to launch the ultra modern medical facility in Effurun was also geared towards reaching out to people with manageable ailments and creating awareness on how to go about them.
Part of the reason for conducting the checks ranging from blood sugar, blood pressure, dental checks, free eye tests amongst others, was part of their open day programme to bring to the notice some of the benefits of the programme to the public.
According to the pharmacist, the rising cases of stroke and heart failure among young people were not unconnected from the high level of sugar and blood pressure among them but that ignorance and poverty have contributed to the ailments.
“Anybody can walk into any pharmacy and do blood sugar test without going to the hospital but the level of ignorance due to high rate of poverty and poor academic background has denied a lot of people from these benefits. This is partly why we are planning to reach out to more Communities and hinterland.”
Participants at the event also called for more private investors to be more concerned in giving back to the society instead of depending on the government.
