IBADAN/Nigeria: 1,533 200-level students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso are poised to resume classes at the Iseyin Campus by the end of October 2023, marking the realization of a promise made by Governor Seyi Makinde during the commissioning of the Iseyin campus in September.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the College of Agricultural Science and Renewable Natural Resources will kick off its second semester in Iseyin on October 23, 2023. This move comes after a series of meetings held by the Commissioner of Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Saliu Adelabu, with key university stakeholders, including Pro-Chancellor Prof. Deji Omole and the Acting Vice-Chancellor.
Prince Dotun Oyelade emphasized the significance of this resumption, stating that it represents a key milestone since the Oyo State Government announced the relocation of the Agriculture Faculty to Iseyin in April 2023. The commencement of lectures for the 200 level students is now officially underway.
In preparation for the students’ arrival, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rasaq Olatunde Kalilu, led the institution’s management team in a meeting with community leaders, who pledged their unwavering support for the students’ resumption. Agreements were reached on matters related to affordable accommodation, transportation, and security measures, ensuring a comfortable stay for the incoming students.
Notably, some lecturers who may not secure immediate accommodation in Iseyin have made arrangements to commute from their Ogbomoso base on a daily basis. The feasibility of this is facilitated by the recently constructed 76-kilometer Ogbomoso-Iseyin road, which reduces travel time to just 55 minutes.
The Commissioner also highlighted that the first semester officially concluded on October 3, 2023, setting the stage for this momentous resumption of classes in Iseyin.
