18 Escapes Death as truck rammed into bus at Umutu, A Delta Community

OBIARUKU/Nigeria: At least 18 passengers escaped death in an accident involving a truck and bus along the ever busy Sapele-Agbor, leaving commuters stranded for several hours Friday, 13 October, 2017 at Umutu, Ukwuani local government area.

The truck loaded with bags of semovita with registration number, AAH 14XA, Anambra, crashed into a bus with 18 passengers including a two months old baby at the foot of the bridge.

The truck blocked the Abraka-Agbor road causing grid-lock along the road at Umutu end.

A visit to the scene by Ndokwa Reporters found out from eye witnesses that   the bus driver entered the road without caution.

According to one of the eye witnesses, the bus driver packed to pick passengers along the road and after that entered the road making proper use of the side mirror.

“The bus driver packed to pick up a passenger and without looking at his side mirror entered the road thinking that the trailer driver will slow down.

“And because the trailer was on high speed, it rammed into the bus and fell in process blocking the road, leaving many commuter stranded.

Though there were no casualties, many of passengers who sustain injuries were taken to an undisclosed hospital.

A two month baby who was covered by bags of semovita was however rescued unhurt.

Men of the Federal Road Safety Corp, FRSC who came to the sense about two hours after the accident could not do anything to help the situation, because there patrol van could not pull the truck out of the road.
