2014 WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS… Nigeria defeats Malawi 2-0

MALAWI’S chief coach, Tom Saintfiet has described Emmanuel Emenike’s goal against the Flames as a back-breaking blow to his team.

Nigeria defeated Malawi 2-0 in Calabar on Saturday to advance to the final stage of the Brazil 2014  World Cup qualifying series with Turkey-based Emenike scoring the game’s first goal in the 45th minute.

“To concede a goal in stoppage time of the first half was a big blow to our ambition, it was demoralising,’’ Saintfeit told a post-match briefing.

“We did our hardwork in the first half hoping to keep a clean slate and unsettle Nigeria in the second half, but the goal actually caught us unawares’’ lamented the Belgian trainer.

On his pre-match boast, Saintfiet said he was only preparing his team for the tough game.

“It was tough for us coming here, we knew what to expect and we prepared the best way we could under the conditions we found ourselves and with this score, we were not disgraced.’’

Victor Moses, who scored Nigeria’s second goal from  the penalty spot, expressed his appreciation to the technical crew for picking him for the match.

“No hard feelings being substituted, but I am very happy to return to the team and score for the team.  That means I have made a great contribution,” said moses.
