ASABA/Nigeria: As the nation prepares for the 2019 general elections following the emergence of candidates for various political offices to be contested for, the Okpanam Youths Organisation (OYO) has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) through its primary elections has proven to be the most credible political party in the country.
OYO in a statement signed by its President and Secretary, Comrade Friday Okonkwo and Comrade James Omunizua stated, “so far, the PDP is the only political party that has proven that democracy can work in Nigeria.”
“From the primaries of the party, candidates emerged through transparent, credible democratic processes and as concerned Nigerians, we are happy that the PDP has given us hope that democracy can work in Nigeria,” they said, adding, “we are happy that our Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has rebranded the PDP with his honesty and commitment to following due process.”
They continued, “it is on record that it is only the PDP that has conducted a Presidential Primary election that all Nigerians can attest to be very free, credible and transparent and our Governor, Senator Okowa delivered that credible process that the greatest critic has not faulted.”
“While we are not political as an organisation, we cannot lose sight of the fact that we need true democrats in political offices to enable them deliver dividends of democracy to us; erosion at Igwogwo pit has eaten half of Okpanam/Akwukwu-Igbo road and no government official has visited the place to see how the road can be saved, our community, Okpanam is part of the capital territory, it is one of the fastest growing communities in the country, while Governor Okowa’s administration is doing a lot, there is need for us to have federal government presence and for other government agencies to intervene in the development of the community.”
Comrades Okonwo and Omunizua observed, “we can attest to the fact that Senator Peter Nwaoboshi (Delta North), Hon. Ndudi Elumelu (Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency), and Hon. Pat Ajudua (Oshimili North Constituency) emerged through transparent processes and while we congratulate them for their emergence as candidates of the PDP, they should be aware that democracy is evolving into a situation whereby they will be asked to tell the people what they have done for them to deserve their votes.”
“We are happy as a people for the development projects Governor Okowa has executed in Okpanam and other communities in Delta State, so, he will not really need to campaign because, his good works will return him to Government House in 2019; we also know the track record of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as a detribalised Nigerian whose wife is from the Eastern part of the country, the choice of Alhaji Abubakar as the Presidential flag bearer of the PDP is a clear message to politicians to work for the people, while others have no business where they have employed Nigerians, we are aware of the numerous businesses Alhaji Abubakar has used to put food on the tables of Nigerians, so, he will definitely be the choice of Nigerians in 2019; we are also aware of projects executed by Senator Nwaoboshi and Hon. Elumelu have executed in Okpanam, we will welcome their re-election into the National Assembly,” OYO stated.
They congratulated the candidates of the PDP and thanked Governor Okowa for providing level play ground whiich made it possible for the candidates to emerge and boost the ratings of the PDP both locally and at the international cycles.
